Before Your Window Film Installation
Window film is one of the easiest and most economical ways to boost the energy efficiency, safety, even curb appeal of your home. In preparation for your upcoming installation, here are a few key points to remember.
- Please keep your AC/heating system running at least 24 hours beforehand to help filter dust particles out of the air.
- Please refrain from vacuuming or sweeping 24 hours beforehand to further limit the amount of dust in the air.
- Please move your furniture or delicate belongings at least 4’ away from the window to allow our installers adequate room to work.

- Please secure your pets prior to our installation team’s arrival for the smoothest and safest work environment possible.
- Please clean all pet hair on floors, window seals, and surrounding areas before Window Film Installation.
- Prior to the film being applied we ask that obstructions such as Computers, desks, filing cabinets, etc. be pulled away from the glass at least 3-4 ft. This is to assure the installation professionals have complete access to your windows.
Shades of Texas will not be held responsible for trapped hair, dirt, or debris after window film application, please read above for preventative measures.
3M Window Film Care & Maintenance Instructions
3M Window Film may be washed with common washings solutions, including ammonia-based products, thirty (30) days after installation. Abrasive type cleaning agents and bristle brushes which would scratch the film must not be used. Synthetic sponges, flexible squeegees, or soft cloths are recommended to be used with cleaning solution.
To maintain the warranty, do not use tape or other adhesive products on the film. This includes signage using static-cling or suction cups that adhere to the window film.
Important Notice:
After Installation, There may be a hazy appearance on your windows. This condition is temporary and is caused by the moisture that is present when applying the film. This hazy appearance will disappear after the film dries which may take up to thirty (30-90) days for the film to completely dry. Thickness of the film or cold weather conditions may require additional time.
